BELLEVILLE, Ill. ( – The Major Case Squad is investigating after a man was killed in Belleville Friday morning.

Carl Silas’ fiancé, Jamie Lott, told said men wearing masks and hoodies broke into her apartment in the 2900 block of West Boulevard around 4:30 a.m. She said Silas, her mother, and their two children were asleep at the time of the break-in.

“Two gunmen just came in and just start shooting from the door. (They) told me to get on the ground. They hit me on the head, and told me to get on the floor. I started begging for my life,” said Lott.

After breaking into the apartment, Lott said the suspects struggled with Silas’ future mother-in-law, Latisha Traylor, who received cuts on her hand as she begged for her life.

“I am laying in my bed. I had my door closed back in my room. I don't bother nobody. Like you say. Why did he shoot him? I don't know,” said Traylor.

During the struggle, Silas fiancé said she was hit in the head with a gun. Lott said Silas was killed in front of the children.

Lott and her mother said they know who one of the suspects are, but refused to disclose that information to News 4.

No other information has been released.
