(Illinois) -

Multiple train cars derailed Thursday morning in Illinois, causing a small leak from the train's cargo.

The derailment occurred in Roxana, Ill., some time between 9:30 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. the morning of Dec. 29.

Seven train cars from the Norfolk Southern Railway train derailed at the Wood River Refinery and authorities said a small amount of stent acid leaked from the cargo train cars. However, the acid is contained and is deemed to be of no danger to the public.

The Norfolk Southern Railway said the acid is leaking a drop every few seconds, but it is being neutralized with another chemical as it leaks.

The Wood River Refinery is resuming under full operation.

The railway said it is bringing in engineers to determine a way to move the derailed cars in the upright position without causing a bigger leak. The process could last until tomorrow.

There are no reported injuries following the incident.

The scene is being monitored now. At this time, the cause of the derailment is unknown.

News 4 will update this story as more information becomes available.
