Mother of Whitney Brown pleads to find daughter's killer

Posted: Updated:
NORTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -

A mother is making another plea to find her daughter's killer, more than a year after her death.

Erica Jones lost her daughter, Whitney Brown, last August when Brown was killed in a drive-by shooting. The shooting occurred at the intersection of Mimika and Shulte, and it all happened in front of her 5 year-old son. Devon Fletcher was also killed in the shooting, as well.

Brown would have turned 27 years-old on Dec. 27.

Jones said it’s been a rough year and four months for her and Brown’s son. Jakeem.

“When [Jakeem’s] alone at night time, that's the hardest part,” said Jones.  “He'll say ‘Nana, can I pray to mommy?’ I say ‘yeah, what you will tell her?’ He says ‘I just want to see her again and tell her that I love her.’ That's hurtful. You can't give him what he's missing back. I'm his Nana, I'm not his mother.”

Jones said she tries to keep her daughter’s memory alive for the Jakeem and the community.

Every year, she collects clothes items for Whitney’s world to help adolescent girls in need. For more than a year, Jones has been trying to understand who would take her daughter.

“Why did you take her? What was the reason? I’m angry. You had no right! Did you think about the lives you took,” said Jones. “When we’re driving in the car, [Jakeem] always sees the sun. He covers his face and says Nana, mama shining on me real hard.”

Jones is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Police haven not made any arrest yet and there’s still no description of the gunman, but investigators say the person was driving a white pick-up truck.

If you have any information about this double shooting call police.
