ALTON (KMOV.com) - The family of the man that drove a truck into the front of a Subway restaurant on Monday says he had a seizure, which caused him to crash.

Adam Gabriel, the owner of the restaurant, made a post to Facebook stating the man's wife and daughter and said he had a seizure, or possibly worse and is now in critical, but stable condition. Police also confirmed the accident was medical-related.

The accident happened just after noon on Monday, while three employees were in the store.

The white truck crashed through the front of the Subway, smashing into the sandwich counter. The driver continued to hit the gas, spinning out his tires and filling the store with smoke.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured, and the employees were able to escape with only minor bruises.

The employees said the driver is a regular customer.

The store is expected to be closed for some time as they make the repairs.

Editor's note: News 4 originally reported that the owner said the man intentionally drove his truck in the Subway. The family says the man had a seizure causing him to crash into the Subway restaurant in Alton.
