Power being restored throughout the area following downed power lines

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Numerous parts of the St. Louis-area are still experiencing power outages, with the number of affected customers remaining in the thousands.

That number is dwindling, however, as Ameren UE crews are working to restore power.

Before 5:30 a.m., Ameren UE confirmed that about 6,500 customers are without power due to downed lines. According to their online outage map, that number increased to around 8.300 at 5:38 a.m.

At this time, the number of outages has dropped to more than 2,000 outages.

The outage has affected areas like Tower Grove, Richmond Heights, Clifton Heights, and the Central West End. Even some areas in the county have been hit with outages, as well. Areas like Florissant and Bellefontaine in North County, and Mehlville in South County.

North and South County customers have since been restored.

Ameren said the downed lines are due to the weather.

News 4 will update this story as more information becomes available.
