Woman ejected, killed in Macoupin County crash

MACOUPIN COUNTY, ILL. (KMOV.com) -

One person died in a two-vehicle crash that occurred in Macoupin County late Friday afternoon.

Authorities say the wreck happened near the intersection Illinois Route 16 and Spanish Needle Road around 4:50 p.m.

A blue 2005 Chevy was driving southbound on Spanish Needle Road approaching Illinois Route 16. When it pulled out onto Route 16, a 2007 maroon Chrysler van going east on Route 16 hit the passenger side of the Chevy.

Both cars then left the road and came to rest in a field. The passenger in the Chevy, Margaret Malloy, 56, of Gillespie, Illinois, was ejected. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Chevy was driven by Billy Malloy, 53, of Gillespie. Larry Secor, 71, of East Gillespie, was driving the Chrysler, and Bennie Secor, 72, also of East Gillespie, was the passenger. Police did not say whether they were injured.

The accident is currently under investigation.
