More drivers, more troopers on roads this holiday weekend

COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Millions of Americans expected to be on the roads during the Christmas weekend, and so will Illinois State troopers.

The Illinois State Police Department (ISP) said with lots of gatherings and celebrations through the New Year, they expect roads to be flooded with drivers.

“We'll have additional officers hired back through a federal fund through IDOT (Illinois Department of Transportation), they'll be out there and they're sole purpose is to be very proactive. They won't be getting any calls for service unless it's an emergency. All they're told and instructed to do is go out there and remove impaired drivers and distracted drivers from the roadway.”

ISP Trooper Calvin Dye Jr. said drivers will sadly make more poor choices on the roads.

This year, they're asking drivers to hold themselves accountable by not drinking and driving or being distracted.
