(KMOV.com) - The mother of a cell phone store employee who was shot during a robbery said there are no guarantees her son will walk again.

Her son Corey, 25, was working at a Go Wireless store on Chippewa in early December when two suspects came in and stole cell phones, police say. Corey then followed the suspects outside the store where one of them shot him in the back.

“He called me as he was laying on the ground in the parking lot. He said, ‘l’m laying on the ground and I can’t feel my legs,” she said. “That bullet went through his back and fractured two vertebrae. It pierced through his diaphragm and liver. He had a collapsed lung.”

She said his recovery hasn’t been easy. He had to undergo life-saving surgery and is currently in a rehab facility.

She added the whole situation has been tough on Corey’s 5-year-old daughter, in part because he will not be home for Christmas.

A GoFundMe has been set up to help pay for his medical bills.

Authorities are still looking for the two suspects. If you have any information on their whereabouts, call police.
