How to stop porch pirates during the holiday season

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) - Postal workers have advice on how you can protect yourself against thieves who steal packages off front porches.

The US Postal Service said it delivered more than 30 million packages on Thursday, more than any other day during the year. Lots of those packages were left on front porches.

Mike Cooke with USPS said there is an app you can download to keep track of a package.

“This app can be used to tell us where you want to deliver the package. You can tell us to hold it at the post office or redirect it to neighbors, around the back yard or some place that you’ve set up. You have total control over the packages coming in with this app,” said Cooke.

When the package is delivered, a text message is sent to you.

USPS also offers a service where the package must be signed for at every step in the process.

You can still have items make to their destination by Christmas if they are shipped through Priority Express Mail.
