POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A man is in custody after threatening a police officer with a scissor blade Tuesday, according to authorities.

Officer Janes responded to a call about a suspicious person near the Jiffy Self Storage in the 3000 block of South Westwood Blvd around 6:50 p.m.

When the officer arrived, he spotted the man who identified himself as Timothy Williams. A warrant check for Williams revealed he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court following a charge for possession of marijuana, police said.

Officer Janes explained the warrant to Williams, and told him he was under arrest. Williams reportedly resisted arrest, shoved his hand into his pocket and assumed a fighting stance.

As Officer Janes reached for Williams’ arm, the suspect pulled out a knife made from a scissor blade and swung at the officer, according to officials.

When Officer Janes tried to use a taser, Williams allegedly pushed the taser towards Officer Janes. When backup arrived, Williams was eventually able to be placed in handcuffs and taken into custody.

At the time of his arrest, police said, Williams was carrying a large bowie style knife and a utility knife.

Williams has been charged with second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action, and resisting arrest.
