ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

A community effort to ensure those without coats are warm this season is taking off.

A restaurant on South Grand set up a “take one, leave one” coat rack outside their doors. The coats are free to anyone who needs them.

The idea was inspired by an anonymous rack set up on Cherokee Street.

Brian Coltrain, a chef at Guerilla Street Food, said they've been blown away by the response. The rack was full with several dozen coats, and throughout the freezing day, people came and picked them up.

“It’s been blowing up, we love to help people, we’ve had some folks come in and ask if they can do anything for us and we said 'no just take care of each other and make sure we’re warm and happy,” Coltrain said.

Now others are following suit, the coffee shop down the street from Guerilla Street Food is also going to set up a similar rack.

Given the need seen so far, anyone who wants to help is welcome to simply drop off a new or used to coat.
