ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- We just have to get through the holidays, enjoy time with family and friends-- and then Blues fans can get ready for the Winter Classic.

For many Blues fans, the January 2 game at Busch Stadium against the Blackhawks can't get here soon enough.

So what does it take to turn Busch Stadium into an ice rink?

A lot of ice.

It'll take about 20,000 gallons of water to get an ice surface that's two inches thick. They still have just a tarp down on the baseball field after taking out the turf a while ago. Crews will begin building the rink Friday.

The NHL truck carrying the ice making equipment pulled up to Busch Stadium Thursday afternoon. There's $1,000,000 worth of equipment in the truck. It doesn't really matter how cold it is they can make ice in almost any weather.

They've had a couple of outdoor games in California, and last year in Denver it was 65 degrees for the outdoor game. Blues owner Tom Stillman and Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III are partnering to pull off the first Winter Classic here in St. Louis.
