ST. CHARLES COUNTY (KMOV.com) - A local musician believes thieves used social media to target his St. Charles home to steal thousands of dollars worth of instruments.

On Saturday night, thieves broke into the home on Lake Pershing Drive in St. Charles County between 8:30 p.m. and 2:30 a.m.  They returned from a music gig to find their basement door busted open.

"For me, personally, I was scared, I didn't know if someone else was in the house and we started realizing the things they had taken including two of his guitars," said Linda Gaal.

Eric Johnson had two guitars stolen, a black, brand new Les Paul and a Charvel Guthrie Govan.

"The sentimental value is unbelievable, yes they're expensive, but those guitars, they just become a part of your family," said Johnson.

Johnson thinks the thieves targeted them through social media. Gaal was live-streaming his show at the Hollywood Casino when the break-in happened.

"As social media can nail you and let people know that you're at your show and they can target your house, its also the best tool in the world to know you have a community out there trying to help you find musical gear," said Johnson.

The thieves also stole a cellphone, bag, and their dog's pain medication.

They are offering a $1,000 reward for the discovery of the stolen guitars.
