FESTUS (KMOV.com) -

Thieves stole two canoes and two jon-boats that were used by a volunteer group near Festus for cleaning area creeks and rivers.

Ken Thomas is one of the volunteers with the organization that's called a "Stream Team."

"I think they're cold, they're cold-hearted. If anything you just hurt the community," Thomas said.

Across the state, The Missouri Department of Conservation coordinates volunteer groups called "Stream Teams" that are dedicated to keeping Missouri's 110,000 miles of streams clean.  Volunteers spend their own time and money to do the cleanup work.

"Their own money they're spending for gas, food, our boats, canoes, whatever we need, everybody goes and buys it themselves,"
said Stream Team volunteer Dennis Sullivan.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for new boats for the group.
