JERSEYVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Two suspects are being sought after a man was attacked with a bat in Jerseyville Tuesday morning.

Police allege the three suspects, identified as 39-year-old Matthew Smith, 30-year-old Brian Hodge and 30-year-old Kaitlyn Robinson, beat a 40-year-old man with a bat and tied him up with a rope in an apartment in the 200 block of South State Street around 4:10 a.m.

When they tried moving the victim from the apartment to another location, the man was able to break free and run out onto the roadway, where he was spotted by a witness who was driving by. The victim continued running until he reached a gas station, which he entered and requested help.

According to police, the victim’s hands were still bound when he entered the gas station.

The victim was transported to a St. Louis hospital with injuries to his head and body.

Smith was found and taken into custody. Robinson and Hodge are not in custody and have been placed as “wanted” by police. Police said Hodge should be considered “armed and dangerous” and has been known to wear a bulletproof vest. The suspects are charged with aggravated battery and unlawful restraint.

Police are also looking for the victim’s 2002 white Ford truck, which has “sport” written on the side and the last known license plates with the Illinois registration of 1948691B.

Anyone with information should contact the Jerseyville Police Department at 618-498-2131.
