NORTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

A fire destroyed a family's home weeks before Christmas and now they're left with nothing.

The family of eight sent all their kids to Normandy High School, and now the school district is stepping in to help.

"We've got a full house so we're just trying to make it at this point," said Lamont Flemon, a father of six.

The Flemon's have lived in their house on Isabella Street for six years, until Tuesday morning.

"We got a phone call from the neighbor saying there's smoke pouring out of the house and we thought 'smoke pouring out of the house, what’s going on with that?" said Flemon.

He rushed back to the house with his wife, but it was too late.

"The basement was totally gone. Everything else was either water damage or smoke damage and there wasn’t much that was retrievable," said Flemon, "We don’t have any furniture, we don’t have any clothes. I mean we pretty much have nothing, what you see us have on is pretty much all we have."

The family of eight is left trying to get back to some kind of normalcy.

"They need your prayers they need your love and your support," said Bernard Long, the band director at Normandy High School.

He's taught three of the Flemon kids and wants to help.

"What better way to help than the Normandy Schools Collaborative to come together as a family and help our
family that’s in need."

The Normandy School District is taking all kinds of donations for the family, from clothes to food, even furniture.

"They've treated us like family they've always been there for us," said Flemon, "I just simply believe that in all of this, God has a plan. I trust God,
I believe him, and I know that we'll be okay."

A GoFundMe account has been set up for the family.
