ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- Some Missouri families who rely on the state for unemployment benefits are feeling left behind Thursday morning.

News 4 has received a number calls from residents saying no one at the Department of Labor is picking up their phone calls.

When questioned, representatives admitted the state has a problem.

A spokesperson for the Department of Labor told said the department just got a new claims filing system, and now all call centers are experiencing what they call, "increased seasonal workload."

That means longer wait times, and in some cases, longer claims processing times. The change is not sitting well with residents who rely on unemployment checks.

One resident told News 4 no one at the Department of Labor has picked up the phone for three weeks. Another told us she applied in October and still has not been assigned a representative.

When asked how the state plans to get back on track, officials released a statement saying, "Call center staff are working overtime hours, and we've added staff to the claims centers to help ensure Missouri workers who lost their jobs due to no fault of their own receive their benefits in as timely a manner as possible."
