AFFTON, Mo. ( -- The St. Louis County Attorney’s Office has charged a suspect with the robbery of a 7-Eleven in Affton late last week.

According to police, 36-year-old Rachel Illiff of Arnold, Missouri robbed the convenience store on Mackenzie Road just after 1 a.m. on December 8.

Authorities say Illiff entered the 7-Eleven and paid for a small amount of gas. After seeing the clerk was along in the store, she went back to her gar and grabbed what appeared to be a silver handgun. She reportedly reentered the store and showed the clerk the weapon, saying, "Give me the register or I’ll shoot you in the leg.”

The clerk surrendered the register, and Illiff allegedly took all the one and five dollar bills. When she drove away, the cashier got a partial license plate, and police were later able to identify Illiff as the suspect.

There was also a witness present at the time of the robbery. The witness told police Illiff had approached him outside the store and had commented the cashier was in the store all alone. Police say the witness saw Illiff reach into her car for something and then go into the store. He later identified her from a photo lineup as the woman he had seen outside the store.

Illiff confessed to the crime and said the gun she displayed was either an antique gun, a toy gun, or a replica gun, which she said she had found in the trunk of her car.

She is charged with first degree robbery and is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
