Student found with loaded gun at Clayton High School

CLAYTON (KMOV.com) -

A Clayton High School student is facing a possible year-long suspension or even expulsion after district officials said the student brought a loaded gun on campus.

However, a district official said the school believes the student did not have malice intent for the weapon. They believe the student wanted to show the gun to their friends.

Dan Gutchewsky, the principal of Clayton High School, sent a letter to parents and student, informing them of the incident.

"However, the absence of malicious intent doesn't take away from the serious nature of the situation or the gravity of the consequences," Gutchewksy said in his letter.

The student gave the weapon to Clayton police officers, and now an investigation into the incident is underway.

In his letter, Gutchewsky said the school could not disclose the disciplinary actions related to the incident, citing privacy reasons. But he did say the specific infraction calls for a 1-year suspension at the least, with the possibility of expulsion.
