ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – Nonprofit agencies, volunteers and several City of St. Louis departments are coming together to launch Winter Operations for three evenings this week.

The operations include increased outreach, transportation to shelters and additional shelter bed space to accommodate homeless men, women and children. City officials said increased shelter beds mean they haven't had to turn away anyone seeking a warm place to sleep this week. Shelters like the Biddle House typically offer 98 beds, but will increase capacity to 185 beds during the Winter Operation period.

"Our goal is to get people into shelter beds. Luckily, we haven't reached that capacity. It's really a balancing act to make sure people get to shelters and have a safe place to stay," said Irene Agustin, Chief Program Manager at the City of St. Louis Homeless Division.

Anyone seeking shelter is advised to contact the following agencies:

  • St. Louis Housing Helpline: 314-802-5444
  • United Way: 211
  • Biddle Housing Opportunities Center: 314-612-1675
