ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The St. Charles City Council is planning to allow homes made of shipping containers to be built in the city only if they meet certain requirements.

The proposal comes after a shipping container home drew opposition from neighbors. Since then, city officials decided rules are needed if another similar home is built.

Tuesday, the city council announced the proposed requirements for any future home built out of recycled material. A conditional use permit must be obtained and the home must meet certain design criteria.

A vote is expected on the proposed requirements later in December.
