ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The president and CEO of Bam Brands, the parent company of Massage Luxe, appeared in court for the first time Tuesday, along with three other suspects. He and 3 other men are facing a single federal charge of kidnapping.

Todd Beckman's attorney, Travis Noble, Jr told News 4, "It's completely out of character for him. Anyone who knows him knows this is not who he is."

According to court documents, Blake Laubinger and his brother Caleb Laubinger kidnapped a man on November 21 and held him hostage for three days while demanding a $27,000 ransom from his mother in Florida. Beckman and a fourth suspect, Kerry Roades, are accused of participating in the crime after the initial kidnapping.

Court records claim the suspects beat, kicked and shocked the victim as well as threatened to kill him. The victim was set free near Gravois Bluffs Shopping Center in Fenton on November 23, according to court records.

In court, all four suspects agreed to postpone a decision by a judge whether to set bond in their cases and how much, until Friday. Also in court, an assistant U.S. Attorney told they judge his office will seek to have the men indicted by a federal grand jury.
