ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The 13-year-old accused of shooting and critically injuring an elderly couple at a beauty supply store in Bellefontaine Neighbors pleaded guilty in family court.

The teenager was accused of shooting the couple, who are both in their 70’s, at the Kings Beauty Supply Store, located in the 10000 block of Lewis and Clark, on July 19. According to officials, she shot the couple after they caught her trying to steal items from the store.

"She made a mistake. Granted, it doesn't justify the action or the means, but her making a mistake does not mean that we stop being parents," said Darnell Jacobs, the girl’s father.

Tuesday, the St. Louis Chapter of the NAACP announced the girl would be sentenced to three years in juvenile justice system, during which she will receive counseling.

"We all are now working to make sure that the system and her have everything necessary so that she can receive the help and the treatment we think that she needs,” said St. Louis Chapter NAACP President Aldolphus Pruitt.

In addition to the sentence, some form of restitution will be required as part of her guilty plea, but the NAACP refused to give those details.
