FLORISSANT, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

One person is now dead after their vehicle was struck by a driver who fell asleep at the wheel Saturday night, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

The fatal accident occurred around 10:50 p.m. on Interstate 270 (I-270), just west of N. Lindbergh Boulevard in Florissant, Mo.

Highway Patrol said D'Angelo Bernaugh fell asleep behind the wheel of her 2008 Hyundai Sante Fe when she was driving eastbound on I-270. Bernaguh, 20, then struck the vehicle in front her, causing the second vehicle to head off the highway and into a street lamp.

The driver of the second vehicle, Thomas Orbin, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Pamela Orbin, 70, who was riding in the passenger seat at the time of the accident, was injured during the accident. She was transported to the hospital where she is currently in serious condition.

Bernaugh's vehicle came to a rest on the shoulder of I-270, Highway Patrol said.
