A veteran bus driver and freshman high school student did not hesitate during an emergency on what was supposed to be an ordinary bus ride.

“I remember the water...the ice water,” said Mikayla Witney.

Shana Williams, a bus driver in Parkway School District, was driving a group of students when she noticed Mikayla passed out behind her.

“I just pulled over and as I got up I noticed she just kept fading out,” said Williams.

Freshman Latasia Brooks was also on the bus that day.

“I seen my bus driver Shana get up and she went to the back and told me to press that button till it beeps and tell them where we’re at and everything,” said Latasia.

Latasia was able to tell emergency crews Mikayla’s information and where the bus was located.

After being treated at Children’s Hospital for several hours, turns out Mikayla overheated on the bus.

Latasia and Shana played a crucial role in Mikayla’s life that day.

Williams said Latasia was a really big help, “She rose to the occasion and I was proud of her.”
