ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Another project tied to a professional sport is asking for St. Louis City taxpayer’s money.

Friday night, the St. Louis Board of Aldermen is scheduled to decide if millions of tax payer dollars should help fund a project for the Cardinals.

In October, Cardinals’ owners unveiled plans for the $220 million phase two of the entertainment district. They are asking the city for $65 million in subsidies. The Housing, Urban Development, and Zoning committee already gave the green light for the funding.

The Cardinals aren’t the only ones knocking on the city’s door for funding, a group trying to bring Major League Soccer to the city also has its hand out.

SC STL is asking the city to pay for roughly $80 million of the proposed stadium. A competing group, Foundry STL released a letter offering to join forces with SC STL to foot the bill. Mayor Francis Slay has said he is excited about SC STL’s plans but any financing commitments are still on the drawing board.

As far as the Cardinals’ Ballpark Village expansion plans go, the project includes high-rise apartments, entertainments, and retail space. If funding moves forward, the project could be complete by 2019.
