JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Governor Jay Nixon awarded 10 first responders with the Missouri Medal of Honor Monday.

Four of those receiving the honor are from the St. Louis area.

The Missouri Medal of Honor is awarded to those who displayed exceptional courage regardless of their own personal safety to protect human life.

Jeffrey Haislip, a St. Charles County Police Officer, was honored for rescuing a 86-year-old woman and her cat from a burning home.

Jordan Selsor is a paramedic who rescued a woman who was stranded in her car in floodwaters.

Although the first responders felt humbled by the recognition, they said they were simply doing their jobs.
