ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- A family traumatized after someone stole their pet is reunited with their dog as of Wednesday.

Jeri Villarreal spoke with News 4 after someone smashed her car window and stole her husband's service dog in training about a week ago at the Carondelet YMCA parking lot.

The dog, Max, helps with her husband's anxiety and without Max, he started to regress.

Monday, someone finally contacted her and said they had her dog. Now he's home safe where he belongs.

They were shocked. The youngest, the 7-year-old, looked at him and said, ‘That couldn't be Max.’ ‘I said yes that's Max.’ And she was so happy,” said Jerri Villiareal. “‘My son, this time, was screaming for joy. So excited, bouncing up-and-down and hugged him and just saying, ‘Thank you I'm so glad you're home.’”

The family did take the dog to the vet to get checked out. We are glad to report that the dog was not harmed.
