ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The holiday season is one of the busiest times on the road with people not only flying where they want to go, but driving as well.

Law enforcement is stepping up its patrols over the next several days in the area to make sure the public stays safe as they get to where they need to go.

“I think with more of us out there on the road to keep an eye on things it slows traffic down a little bit.  People are aware of what they are doing around them,” Trooper Justin Lacy with the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Lacy pulled over a car going 112 miles per hour early Wednesday morning.  He said he does not trust a driver getting back on the road after catching them driving that way. He reiterated it only takes one reckless driver to ruin someone else's holiday.

“I wouldn’t say it’s a scare tactic but all of us with the Highway Patrol we want everyone to get to their destination safely.  What we do not want is that one person out there driving recklessly ruining everybody else’s holiday,” Lacy said.

With weather being wet like it was Wednesday morning it is even more important to slow down and be vigilant because it takes your car longer to break under wet road conditions.
