RED BUD, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

An elderly couple in Red Bud, Illinois has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.  Their 1998 Buick was repossessed late last week because their prescription medication was getting too expensive and they couldn’t afford both that and their car payments.

So Stan and Pat Kipping had a decision to make.  They paid for the medication.

That brought Jim Ford, co-owner of Illini Recovery Inc., to repossess their vehicle.

“I could see my grandparents in them,” Ford said. “I’d hate for someone else to have that happen to their grandparents.”

Ford tried to work out a deal with the bank so the Kippings could keep their Buick.  When that didn’t work, he took to GoFundMe to try and raise the necessary funds.  Ford said they raised $3,500 in one night.

“I’m in a situation where I can help people out, which a lot of people are not,” Ford said. “I figured if I didn’t make a difference nobody would.  I just wanted to help out.”

Ford not only was able to pay off the car’s payments at the bank, but he also got it detailed and looking brand new.  Through the help of a friend, they changed the oil, fixed the headlights and the radiator.

When the men brought the 1998 Buick back to the Kippings, they did so along with a frozen Thanksgiving turkey.  It’s a moment the Kippings say they’ll never forget.

“There’s a lot of good people out there and one of them is Jim.  Jim Ford.  If it wasn’t for him this never would’ve happened,” Pat Kipping said.

“It’s like hitting the lottery.  And I told (Jim) if I do hit the lottery I won’t forget you,” Stan Kipping said.
