Alderman Jeffrey Boyd declares his candidacy for St. Louis Mayor

ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- The St. Louis mayoral race added it’s seventh name Monday, as 22nd Ward Alderman Jeffrey Boyd declared his candidacy.

Boyd has served as alderman for nearly 14 years, and was a member of the Army for 23 years.

Viewers may remember Boyd for his impassioned speech against gun violence after his nephew was murdered in July of 2015.

In his interview, he implored St. Louis communities to come together and called those you propagate gun violence “cowards.”

Boyd joins St. Louis City Treasurer Tishaura Jones, Missouri State Senator Jamilah Nasheed, President of the St. Louis Board Aldermen Lewis Reed, Alderman Antonio French and Alderwoman Lyda Krewson in the race, for which the primary will be held March 7.

Candidates have until January 6 to declare for the race.
