ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Becky Petty of St. Louis County thought getting a deck built would be easy.

In April, Petty was approached by Damon Hunter to construct a deck on her new home.

Petty paid Hunter $6,933 to do the job, but Hunter never started. Petty said, "he needs to be going to prison."

The Better Business Bureau has received numerous complaints about Hunter over the years.

According to the BBB, Hunter sometimes uses the alias, Jermaine Jenkins.

Hunter has spent time in prison for theft. According to the Missouri Department of Corrections, Hunter was paroled on Jan. 2, 2015, but declared an "absconder" on Aug. 19, 2016.

Multiple attempts to reach Hunter in person have been unsuccessful. Hunter has not returned phone messages left by News 4.

After losing $6,933 to Hunter, Petty hired a second contractor to complete the job.

Brandon Roberts was paid $8,000 in June, but according to Petty he also took her money and did nothing.

In September, Roberts agreed to speak with News 4 about the allegation. Roberts said, "that's a strong claim, I don't know if I've ever ripped anyone off or stolen money from anyone."

Roberts said he could likely resolve the situation "within the month, couple weeks probably."

On Nov. 21, Petty told News 4 she still hasn't received a refund from Roberts.

Roberts was arrested and charged in St. Louis County with receiving stolen property.

I, Clayton Fair, DSN 3602, St. Louis County Police Department, knowing that false statements on this form are punishable by law, state that the facts contained herein are true.  I have probable cause to believe that on June 17, 2016, at "redacted by News 4 for privacy reasons," Brandon Roberts, White, Male, DOB 10/26/1983, 5'11”, 195lbs, committed one or more criminal offense(s).

RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY - CLASS C FELONY

The facts supporting this belief are as follows:  Victim reported that she had hired defendant to build a deck and remodel the garage at her residence at "redacted by News 4 for privacy reasons." She gave defendant a check for $8,000.00 in order to purchase materials. Defendant e-mailed victim a copy of the design plans for the project but otherwise never returned to victim's residence to begin work. Defendant failed to comply with victim's requests to refund her money. He was arrested in early October. Defendant said he had used the proceeds from the check victim gave him to buy materials for another project. He said he had obtained a bid from Home Depot for the materials needed for victim's job but had not purchased them. When victim asked him for her money back, he did not respond or comply because he only had enough money left to pay some of what he owed her rather than all of it.

Roberts bonded out of the county jail on Nov. 15.
