ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

On Friday News 4 reported about the possibility of a Trump Hotel on Tucker Boulevard in downtown St. Louis, but the developer now says they are courting Marriott to operate the hotel.

Alterra International  is developing the Jefferson Arms building into a "hotel, residences, retail and office space. It's going to be a mixed use building" said Nile Tuzun, Alterra's creative director.

Tuzun says the company has spoken with multiple hotel chains but on Friday indicated "another hotel operator we have been talking to in the past 12 months is Trump Hotels International. They are also excited for the potential to be in St. Louis."

Investigative Reporter Chris Nagus followed up by asking, "So right now you are pursuing the project with Trump International?" Tuzun answered, "yes."

On Monday Mayor Slay tweeted "No Trump Hotel. Development team has confirmed that the shuttered Jefferson Arms will NOT be a Trump Hotel."

Alterra later announced Marriott will operate the hotel, which will have 198 rooms. Also part of the redevelopment plan for the Jefferson Arms Building is 239 apartments and more than 18,000 square feet of commercial space on the first floor. In total, Alterra International lays out a plan that aims to "revitalize almost 520,00 square feet of blighted and vacant space."

Alterra International is expected to meet with the St. Louis Development Corporation about the project later this week.
