FENTON, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Police have released surveillance photos that show two "persons of interest" after a woman's purse was stolen and she was shot in the chest on Nov. 11.

Police were called for a robbery and shooting at the Denny’s restaurant, near Interstate 44 and Bowles Avenue, in Fenton around 1 a.m.

"She was eating breakfast a little bit with a friend and that's when I believe she went out to her car and this situation happened," said St. Louis County Police Sergeant Shawn McGuire.

The armed robber reportedly approached the 66-year-old woman in the parking lot and demanded her purse. Police said the encounter was totally random.

“It doesn't appear she resisted at all and that's what raises our alert a little more too," McGuire said.

The restaurant was back to normal by midday but the mayor of Fenton, Mike Polizzi, told News 4 this kind of violent crime is anything but normal.

"I got an email at one o'clock this morning about the incident that took place. I had to read it twice, because shot in the City of Fenton, that just doesn't happen," Polizzi said.

Crime stats back him up. Since January 1, there have been five aggravated assaults, only two robberies including this one and this was the first shooting this year in Fenton. Police are checking neighboring businesses to see if surveillance video captured the suspect coming or going and are asking for the public's help.

"If you heard anything, saw anything or know the person who did this, please contact our police department or CrimeStoppers," McGuire said.

Polizzi said police are putting a lot of resources into solving this crime and he's confident they'll find the suspect.

The suspects were last seen leaving the restaurant’s parking lot in a black vehicle.

If you have any information leading regarding the "persons of interest," please contact CrimeStoppers or St. Louis County Police.
