ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The former superintendent for a suburban St. Louis school district will not face federal charges despite a highly critical state audit.

The U.S. Attorney's office in St. Louis on Thursday announced that it has concluded an investigation of Dianne Critchlow and found no basis for criminal charges.

Critchlow is the former superintendent of the Fox School District in Jefferson County. A state audit released in May found that Critchlow had about $100,000 in questionable expenses on three school district credit cards, buying items such as watches, wedding gifts and iTunes gift cards. She retired as superintendent in 2014, soon after suspicious activity on district credit cards prompted the board to ask for a state audit.
