ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

With the gradual shift into colder temperatures this fall, fireplaces and fire pits could see an uptick in use.

The St. Louis Department of Parks, Recreation, and Forestry would like to help with that.

On Nov. 9, the department is offering free firewood to St. Louis City residents at three different locations. Residents can pick up their firewood at Forest Park in the lower Muny parking lot, Carondelet Park at the Compost and Recycling location, and O'Fallon Park on the north picnic site No. 4.

The department said the wood will come from the removal of dead or damaged trees from the parks and streets in the city. The wood will be dropped off after 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Wood is not guaranteed and is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. The offer runs until the first week of March 2017.

Commercial vehicles and trailers are prohibited from picking up free firewood.

For more information on the firewood, contact the Forestry Division at 314-613-7200.
