2 teens killed in Jennings crash; unlicensed driver behind wheel, police say

JENNINGS (KMOV.com) -

Two teenagers were killed when the car they were in hit a tree in Jennings Friday night.

A car with six people inside hit a tree in the 2500 block of Shannon around 8:30 p.m. Inside were a female driver, female passenger in the front seat and four passengers in the back.

The deceased individuals have been identified as 16-year-old Theodore Barnett III of the 200 block of Elmdale in St. Louis and 15-year-old Michael Leachman of the 2100 block of Fairhaven in Jennings, Mo. Both of the victims were in the backseat of the car. 

Everyone else inside the car was taken to a hospital with serious or critical injuries, except the front seat passenger who was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries. 

Police said the cause of the accident was careless driving and speeding. The driver was an unlicensed 16-year-old female. 

The accident is still under investigation.
