Overland K-9 officer dies of medical complications

OVERLAND, Mo. (KMOV.com) – An Overland Police Department K-9 officer passed away Thursday.

Diablo died of complications from degenerative myelopathy, according to the department.

The 6-year-old K-9 officer was born in the Czech Republic and began his service with the Overland Police Department in 2012 with handler Officer Chris Fanning.

Diablo was trained and certified in narcotics detection, tracking, suspect search, evidence search, obedience, criminal apprehension and handler protection. He was also used in demonstrations at the Ritenour School District and visited the Neighborhood Preservation Commission meetings.
