MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Election officials in the Metro East say over 30,000 votes have already been cast in early voting.

Illinois law allows voters to vote weeks before Election Day. Madison County Clerk Debra Ming-Mendoza says more than 16,000 ballots have been processed.

In St. Clair County, County Clerk Thomas Holbrook says the number is more than 15,000.

"It's successful," Holbrook says. "We wish it would be even greater."

A recent judicial decision is also allowing voters to register on Election Day in Illinois. Local officials are concerned that could lead to long waits on November 8, and they're hoping more voters take advantage of early voting this week.
