ALTON, Ill. (KMOV.com) -

Police are searching an Alton neighborhood for a suspect involved with an armed home invasion.

The Alton Police Department said they are looking for a suspect who invaded a home in the 300 block of Lindenwood Boulevard in Alton, Ill. The suspect allegedly held a woman at gunpoint, then fled the home.

The woman told News 4 she heard someone inside her home and thought it was her brother. She then saw a man who looked like a utility worker wearing a mask and holding a big trash bag.

The man allegedly held a gun to the woman and told her to get on the floor before asking her if her brother or anyone else was home. The woman said she replied 'no' to both questions before the man went into another room and ran out the back door.

A neighbor claims he saw the suspect walking down the street on Lindenwood just minutes prior to the alleged incident.  Robert McGlasson told News 4 a "strangely dressed man" was walking down the street and disappeared by the victim's front porch.

"It's just the fact it was someone I had never seen before.  I see people walking by all the time but they're people out of the neighborhood," McGlasson said.

"He was just dressed so strange."

Alton Police said they are investigating the incident as a case of Armed Criminal Action/Home Invasion.

Several officers and a canine unit are currently searching the neighborhood.
