ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The mother of a 14-year old murder victim is speaking out about her son's death.

Danielle Smith told News 4, "He was a very smart and intelligent and a fun guy to be around."

According to St. Louis Police Department, Jamarr Mack was found lying on a sidewalk in the 4300 block of Lee Avenue Monday evening around 8 p.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A close friend, Andre Adams, said Mack was at a library at Natural Bridge Road and Newstead Avenue before his death. Adams said Mack sent a text saying he was about to leave and he responded.

"I texted him and told him to stay at the library, stay at the library little bro, and five minutes later I heard gunshots," Adams said.

Adams said he wanted to accompany Mack on the walk home for his protection.

Smith said detectives are following leads in the case and she's confident they'll find the person responsible. She had this message for her son's killer: "You're not going to get away with it, and it was wrong for what you did."

James Clark, vice president at Better Family Life, told News 4 it's unfortunate that most people aren't shocked by the murder of a 14-year old anymore.

"Everyone should look at themselves and ask the question, 'Are we doing enough to prevent these kinds of acts of violence?,' and the collective answer will be no," said Clark.

A candlelight vigil is planned for Friday at Fairground Park at 3:30 p.m.
