SUNSET HILLS, Mo. (KMOV.com) - Police calls of prostitution, drug use and more. After years of alleged illegal activity, the Econo Lodge in Sunset Hills is officially closed for business.

"Drugs and death, meth labs and more cases. It is nice to be able to see justice be served," says Kelly Bartz.

Kelly Bartz is one of handful of residents who spoke out against the Econo Lodge in front of the Sunset Hills Board of Alderman. Her daughter works across the street from the hotel.

"I am a single mom of two kids. She (her daughter) works at the Mellow Mushroom. It's so busy, people have to park offsite. Knowing what's been going on for so long, it leaves you concerned," she said.

The Sunset Hills city attorney said since 2013, 800 calls to police about this business were made.

The owner says he's not the bad guy here and has been doing his best.

The Board of Alderman voted to side with the community and revoked the Econo Lodge's business license, effective immediately.

"It was appropriate given the testimony and it breaks my heart that there are residents that feel unsafe and businesses that are being affected," said Alderwoman Dee Baebler.

Bartz said she feels it was the right move too.

"I am thrilled this is why I am a resident here."
