ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

The man police believe robbed and beat a 64-year-old cancer patient in south St. Louis in October has been charged.

Danny Barnett, 34, is charged with second-degree robbery.

He is accused of taking the victim's wallet and beating him.

The victim’s sons say their father, who is in critical-but-stable condition, has Stage IV cancer and was supposed to get a test done to see how much progress he had made.  Due to his injuries from the attack, that test will no longer happen.

“We thought he had taken two steps forward but now this has put us five steps backwards,” the victim’s son, Vu Le, said.

“It’s very disheartening how people can prey on the weak and the elderly,"Tyler Ruby said, another son of the victim:

Both sons say their father was just walking down an alley because he had been trying to get his strength back following chemotherapy treatments.  After the attack, they say the saw their father lying on the pavement with a pool of blood around him.

They do not understand why this act of violence was done to their father.

“If someone wanted to take his wallet, he was so weak he couldn’t defend himself.  Just take the wallet,” Le said.

Ruby said he is beside himself on why someone would "go this low just to get a few dollars out of a wallet.
