ST. CHARLES, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Police in St. Charles are asking for help identifying a suspect who stole a car that had a small child inside from a QuikTrip gas station Sunday night.

According to police, the mother left the keys in the ignition with the child inside while she ran into the store on Zumbehl Road to grab a bag of chips around 6:20 p.m. The vehicle was not left running.

The vehicle was later found less than half a mile away northbound Missouri Highway 94 near Burning Tree.

The child was found inside the car seat unharmed.  Police believe the suspect abandoned the vehicle after realizing the child was inside of it.

Police said after leaving the stolen vehicle, the suspect re-entered a newer model red Chevrolet, possibly a Cruze, with tinted windows and no front license plate. The vehicle was last seen on Highway 94 towards Interstate 70.

Authorities are investigating if the suspect and red vehicle are the same as an incident which a red Chevrolet Cruze was taken from the QuikTrip near South Fifth Street on October 2.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
