SOUTH ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) -

The St. Louis County Council's 6th District is really the one and only race that matters in South County on Election Day.

An area that has an estimated 180,000 residents is largely unincorporated leaving the council seat the only political representation for the area and nicknaming it, "Mayor of South County."

Democrat Pat Yaeger and Republican Ernie Trakas are campaigning for the seat being vacated by Kevin O'Leary.  Yaeger is a former four-term state representative and Trakas is an education attorney making his first run in politics.

Both candidates say they're in the race to give South County a voice in Clayton.  In recent years South County residents have opposed developments they believe were pushed through county government.   This summer, residents successfully stopped a planned apartment complex at Bauer Rd. and Tesson Ferry Rd

"I guess my biggest thing is, I want to be responsive to the people,"  Yaeger tells News

"Number one in this campaign is to return forthright, assertive, accessible and responsible representation to residents," according to Trakas.
