CRESTWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

Crestwood residents are being asked for their opinions on how the city should handle a looming budget crisis.

According to city administrator Kris Simpson, the city is projected to keeping running a deficit and will deplete its rainy day fund by 2020.

Simpson says the city must now look at raising taxes or look at cuts in services.  Crestwood has among the lowest property tax rates in St. Louis County thanks in part to the sales tax generated for years by the Crestwood Mall.   But the mall is now being demolished for a residential and retail development that will not likely produce the same revenue.

Earlier this year, Crestwood officials considered replacing their police department with St. Louis County Police, but public opposition derailed that idea.
