WASHINGTON PARK (KMOV.com) -

Thieves targeted a Metro East health clinic and it was all caught on camera.

They went after air conditioning units, not just the copper, but the entire unit. Now staff and hundreds of patients are left to work and get treated while dealing with some uncomfortable temperatures.

"Right now it is probably about 85 degrees inside unbearable for the staff," says Executive Director Mark Freeland with the Health and Opportunity Center in Washington Park.

Freeland says Friday night, thieves got away with the two air conditioning units from the Washington Park clinic. In the surveillance video, you can see two men walking towards the cage, they cut off the freon, wait, break the locks, lift up the top of the cage and take out the units one by one.

"This is the third time that either parts or in this case, the whole air conditioning unit has been taken," said Freeland

It's a costly move.

"The combination of the air conditioning and labor, about $5500 to replace this is probably going to move it to the roof to make it a little more difficult to get to," says Freeland.

Police are investigating, but say it's hard to get a good look at the thieves because their faces are hidden. Freeland and his team are not giving up hope.

"There maybe some short satisfaction monetary gain but it does impact us very negatively and we would like them to find gainful employment some other way," he says.
