GODFREY, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Village officials and people in the community are continuing to mourn the death of St. Louis County officer Blake Snyder.

One of his grade school teachers, Amy Monahan, said she couldn’t be more honored to have known him, and she wanted his 2-year-old child to know that.

“When he gets older he will know that his daddy was a hero," said Monahan.

It’s an opinion shared throughout the community. Wednesday, residents showed their support to Snyder by hanging ribbons on trees and poles along Clifton Terrace Road. Mayor Mike McCormick said the fire department will have two hook and ladder trucks flying a flag, and that’s not all.

“He's a Godfrey person and there's not enough we can do. We are going to take our park department trucks, line them, we are going to have flags there. We’ve been creating signs that say ‘hometown hero,’” said McCormick.

Monahan said she knows Snyder looking down on his community, and hopes he knows just how much he will be loved and missed.

“He is listening right now and I would tell him that the whole town is proud of him. The whole town love him and his family,” said Monahan.
