Officer Blake Snyder's aunt to hold fundraiser in his honor

WILDWOOD, Mo. ( -- Nettie White remembers the phone ringing just before seven in the morning last Thursday. It wasn’t that odd since her husband is a police officer and regularly gets calls at odd hours.

But when he started talking White knew immediately this was no ordinary conversation.

“I heard him say Blake (Snyder)’s name and I heard him say ‘gone’. And I immediately knew something was very wrong,” White said.

White is Officer Snyder’s aunt. When he was killed responding to a disturbance call in South St. Louis County it changed her life and the lives of her family forever.

They went to the hospital and noticed no one could believe what was happening.

“The emotion that day was complete shock and disbelief. And really it still is,” she said. “You just don’t think it’s going to happen to you, I know everybody says that and everybody hears that but it’s really true.”

White was already planning on holding a fundraiser at her store, The Porch, in Wildwood. It was going to support Backstoppers along with Officer Mike Flamion, who was paralyzed after being shot during a traffic stop in July.

She had no way of knowing this event would also be in honor of her nephew.

“It has a really good purpose to it now. It did before but it will have ever more so now,” she said.

The fundraiser is at The Porch, 16957 Manchester Road, in Wildwood this Saturday.
