ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -

While the family of St. Louis County Police Officer Blake Snyder mourns, memories of the policeman are being brought to the forefront.

Shannon Hoerle, Officer Snyder's sister-in-law, remembers a time when she was excited when her sister married Officer Snyder.

Officer Snyder leaves behind a wife and a 2 year-old son. His family was the center of Officer Snyder's world.

Hoerle said it means so much to the family that the community is outpouring support for them in the their time of grief.

"The fact that we have not had to worry about anything--we want to thank everyone for the support for us, Elizabeth, for Malachi, and especially all of the police departments," Hoerle said. "We are so grateful."

Hoerle, along with Snyder's brother-in-law, Justin Sparks, said while there have been a lot of tears, there has also been laughter as they remember Officer Snyder.

When asked what Officer Snyder would think of the community outpouring, Hoerle said he would not consider himself a hero.

Sparks said, that is one reason why Officer Snyder is, indeed, a hero.
